Adam Lambert to perform new single on American Idol

Adam Lambert will release a new single, “Welcome to the Show” featuring Laleh, on Thursday, and will also perform the track on American Idol the same day. His appearance on the show was announced last week.

“I wanted to surprise my fans with a new, uplifting anthem for the spring,” Lambert says in a release. “I asked Max Martin for help and he paired me up with two great writers and producers; Ali Payami, who worked with me on ‘Ghost Town,’ and Swedish star Laleh who is also a featured vocalist on the track. I feel this song will give people strength to be exactly who they are.”

Lambert was the runner-up on American Idol season 8 and is just one alum who has been schedule to perform in the show’s last season. His appearance follows an emotional visit from Kelly Clarkson, the show’s inaugural winner, who performed “Piece By Piece” last month.

Other past contestants like Scott McCreery and Kris Allen have come out with new projects – songs, tours, and compilation albums – leading up to the final season as well. “If they continue putting great music out there and maintaining their relevance, ‘famous’ will follow them,” Jan Smith, a vocal producer who has mentored Usher and Justin Bieber, recently told EW when asked about Idol champs’ futures.
