Water has returned after a 24-hour outage which affected people across Oxford, Thames Water says.

Properties, including John Radcliffe Hospital, in the OX3, OX4 and OX44 postcodes had low pressure or no supply at all.

Thames Water said it had worked through the night and "everything should now be back to normal".

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust had previously "urged" people to conserve water.

In a statement, Thames Water explained the outage had been caused by air entering the pipes following work to upgrade a water main.

The company added: "It's possible your water may look cloudy when supplies return. This is caused by tiny air bubbles which are harmless and will disappear if you let the water stand. By running your tap for a couple of minutes this should stop happening.

"We understand it can be inconvenient when supplies go off. Thank you for your patience while we worked to resolve the problem."
